Differences Between Christianity And Buddhism - 2030 Words

This paper is a comparison between two very different religions, specifically Christianity and Buddhism. Coming from opposite sides of the globe these two religions could not be any farther apart in any aspect. I will discuss who Christ is for Christians and who Buddha is for Buddhists. I will also get into the aspects of charity, love, and compassion in both religions and I will be looking at the individual self and how Christians see resurrection where the Buddhists feel about the afterlife. One thing to keep in mind is that the two religions are very different but they seem to have a very similar underlying pattern. Both believe that there was a savior of their people, Buddha and Christ, and both believe that there is something good†¦show more content†¦The Christian religion is one of few religions where punishments for sins are not severe. In the Christian religion, even if you have lived a life of sin, so long as you repent in the end, you will be saved and given etern al life. This is not so in other religions. Such religions as Hinduism for instance do not believe this. For everything you do wrong you will be punished. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, if not in this life, then the next. Hindu s also believe that punishing the body is part of the path to salvation. Christianity is nothing like this. Many Christians live in high class society. Christianity is one of the most appealing in that any sins may easily be corrected and that Christians may live comfortable, if not wealthy lives without guilt. Christianity, like other religions though, has many weaknesses. Although as time goes on, Christianity is slowly evolving and trying to become even more appealing to society, there are still many downfalls. One thing with Christianity is that from day one we are given a guilt trip. We are born evil. We are born with the original sin. We are at the mercy of God. If we beg forgiveness however, it shall be granted. My grandmother for instance has been a firm believer in the Roman Catholic faith. She, being taught in the old style, firmly believes in going to confession weekly and begging for forgiveness. It has been taught to her that man

A Separate Peace Essay Prompts Example For Students

A Separate Peace Essay Prompts We all confront antagonists in everyday life. In John Knowles, A Separate Peace, Gene, the protagonist confronts several different antagonists as he tries to mature throughout the book. The antagonists Finny, the war, and Genes own inner issues affect how fast he is able to start this process of maturing. All of them developing him as a person. Finny is one of the many antagonists who shows Genes maturing process down by making all of Genes decisions for him. First, Finny pressures Gene to climb up in a tree and jump into a river. What was I doing up here anyway? Why did I let Finny talk me into things like this? Pg. 9 Gene is obviously too shy and wont speak up for himself. Its hard for him to mature and become his own person, because part of being mature is making your own decisions. Then Finny makes Gene get involved with athletics which takes time away from Genes school work, and doesnt allow Gene to mature by doing what he was already good at. Finny also affects Genes decision to enlist in World War II. When Finny found out about Gene joining the war he wasnt supportive of his decision to enlist. That slowed down Genes maturing because in order to mature you cant back down on your decisions just to please another person.. However, Finny isnt the only thing that affects Gene and his maturing process. The war acts as an antagonistic force toward Gene because it forces him to mature too fast. When Genes friend, Leper is recruited from Devon, Gene realizes that the war is real and it does affect him, especially when Leper comes back from the war crazy. This affects his maturing because he is seeing someone he cares about loose his mind. Finnys opinion on the war also affects and shocks Gene, sure, there isnt any war. Pg. 150 This forces Gene to mature because he realizes that people have different beliefs and standards which is a major realization in the maturing process. When Gene realizes that he will eventually have to go to war, this is a major step because part of maturing is coming to terms with what you have to do. Even though the environment affected Genes maturing in many ways, his inner issues were the major antagonist. Genes inner issues inhibit his maturing process. He always feels he has to compete to be better than Finny and he puts pressure on himself. When he does this he isnt being his own person which slows his maturity down. When Gene decides not to enlist it is also an inner issue because he had made a decision but as soon as Finny disapproved of his decision, he backed out on what he wanted to do. When Finny said, Enlist what a nutty idea Pg. 100, this slows down his maturing process because in order to mature you have to make your own decisions. Another inner issue is his school work.  He knows he should do well in school, but he also wants to fit in by playing sports. This slows down his maturing because hes not doing whats good for him. Inner issues are what mainly affected his maturing process. Gene confronts several different antagonists which affect him as he tries to mature. Three of the major antagonists Finny, the war, and genes own inner issues affect how fast he is able to go through this process. Part of life and growing up is finding out who you are and what your morals are. You develop these things as you mature and antagonists slow down this process, as they did for Gene.

Illustrate the concepts of pluralism and corporatism Essay Example

Illustrate the concepts of pluralism and corporatism Essay An Illustration the constructs of pluralism’ and corporatism’ by using them to two suitably selected West European States The constructs of pluralism and corporatism occupy two of the opposite terminals of the Western European democratic spectrum. While one seeks to increase the range of parliamentary democracy in the post?industrial age, the other strives to cut down the capacity for enhanced engagement in democracies by bowing to the caprice of the economic market instead than the will of the bulk of the people. Surely, the statement about which manner of democracy ( corporatism or pluralism ) is the correct’ method for partitioning political power in the 20 first century, is non dead. Though corporatism can non deny its links with the European experiment of fascism during the 1920’s and the 1930’s ( in peculiar the economic fascism’ as practised by Mussolini’s Italy ) and though pluralism has likewise organic theoretical ties to socialism, both remain in grounds in European Union provinces today, although no longer in the totalitarian signifier that characterised th eir embodiments during the first half of the 20th century. For the intent of comparing, two states have been selected for analysis as illustrations of pluralism and corporatism. These states are the United Kingdom and Austria and – needfully – the text herein will be split into two to compare the states while besides dovetailing at times in order to underline the similarities between the democracies of Britain and Austria. First, nevertheless, a definition of the constructs of pluralism and corporatism must be ascertained so as to set up a fixed conceptual model. Rationality’ , representative government’ , majority rule’ , republicanism’ , populism’ and the will of the people’ ( as termed by Rousseau and the libertarian doctrine of the Gallic Revolution ) have all been used to depict the ideological drift behind pluralism and all of these by and large left-of-center constructs are interconnected. What is certain is that pluralism is an ideological agencies to a political terminal that would procure the most democratised vision of authorities possible, encouraging diverseness in multicultural Western populations via the encouragement of unfastened argument on any figure of societal, political, cultural and economic jussive moods. There are bounds to pluralism. It is of import, for case, to observe the cardinal difference between consentaneous regulation a nd political consensus ( which characterises pluralist idea ) . Consensus represents a looser restraint than unanimity, more unfastened to conventions about developing a sense of the meeting’ and leting more room to burden differentially parts to debate that differ in quality. [ 1 ] Corporatism Corporatism is the diametral antonym of pluralism in so far as it envisages political policy as the merchandise of the argument of the few’ instead than the many’ with the minority in this case represented by large concern, industrial capital and economic trusts. Corporatism is linked to the right wing of political sentiment in western idea, which is per se distrustful of the liberty of political power as promulgated by pluralism mentioning the ill-famed tyranny of the majority’ as a counterweight to claims that corporatism is simply a facade for totalitarian visions of neo?fascism. Therefore, the main split between pluralist and corporatist political orientations is located within their differing reading of the impression of the province. The corporate province is a state-with-a-purpose. It has moved beyond its traditional functions of maintaining the peace, keeping the currency, diplomatic negotiations and defense mechanism. In add-on, it offers management solutions’ to the electorate, which requires more and more money and power to transport them out. [ 2 ] The United Kingdom: A Pluralist State As the oldest lasting experiment with parliamentary democracy in Western Europe, Britain is the best illustration of a pluralist province in action. Pluralism in the UK is chiefly meted out in the tremendous power wielded by interest’ or pressure’ groups a cardinal symptom of pluralism in pattern. This has by and large proved to be a fruitful historical matrimony between representative organic structures and the policy?making cabal of the authorities with the famously secular composing of the UK ( integrating an increasing rhythm of devolved and decentralized authorities ) cited as a aglow illustration of the victory of pluralist political relations. Westminster has a deep?rooted tradition of paying attentiveness to coerce groups with non?governmental administrations ( NGO’s ) stand foring any figure of people on a assortment of socio?political issues from anti?smoking conferences toFathers for Justice. Yet while it is true that involvement groups permit non?politicised constitutions to take part more to the full in the parliamentary democracy, there is besides turning concern that they stifle every bit much as trigger societal alteration by subjecting the necessary development of post?modern society to unneeded cheques and balances. The United Kingdom is frequently cited as an utmost illustration of the power of groups in forestalling necessary alteration in society. [ 3 ] Furthermore, the application of force per unit area groups in the mainstream political domain does nil to extinguish the influence of large concern, the pulse of corporatism. Rather ; empirically, it would look to be true that concern groups exceed other types numerically. [ 4 ] The recent debut of 20 four hr imbibing high spots the on-going primacy of the corporate anteroom in inciting domestic policy in Britain. Oesterreichs: A Case Study in Corporatism. Austria has a long association with corporatism in domestic political personal businesss. Detractors attempt to worsen the nexus between the Austrian experiences of National Socialism with the go oning trust upon corporate sentiment in explicating policy. However, the trust upon corporatism is every bit much a residue of its geopolitical state of affairs ( close to the boundary line of the former Communist iron curtain’ that split Europe in two ) as it is due to a national disposition to autocratic political relations. Corporatism has been manifested in Austria by the laterality of concern over representative organic structures such as trade brotherhoods for the supposed greater corporate good of the state. In this manner, corporatism was translated into the corporate province that sought to protect Austria’s natural material interests [ 5 ] against both of the neighbouring East and West axis. However, the restrictions of corporatism in Austria have been greatly accentuated in the past 20 old ages as a radically changing societal and demographic composing of the state has fostered an increasing dependance upon parliament and the pluralism of party political relations. The private and public cabals have in fact moved closer to a brotherhood than an uneasy armistice or confederation as was frequently the instance in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Furthermore, the historical merger of corporate concern, labor and authorities has paved the manner for the modern-day Austrian theoretical account of the political third way’ – a via media between capitalist economy and the organic structure politic that seeks to heighten the chance for political engagement for all. This is the same ideal of the third way’ of political relations as championed by New Labour. Thus, in the terminal, corporatism in Austria has been forced to bow to the primacy of pluralism in post?industrial political theory. Decision Sophisticated modern-day democracies can non boom via attachment to merely one paradigm of democratic political sentiment. For illustration, the gradual eroding of province boundaries has lessened the influence of corporatism in Austria while the worlds of the planetary economic market render pluralism in the UK as much a slave to large concern as any other portion of the public political domain. This convergence of theory in Western European states has proved to be the accelerator behind the mention to the terminal of history and the last man [ 6 ] ( Francis Fukuyama ) whereby domestic party political relations is reduced to little more than a autotype of the dominant democratic ethos of neo?liberalism and the grim rise of planetary free market capitalist economy. Team Activity and Principles of Team Management

Team Activity and Principles of Team Management Introduction It has been observed that the culture of an organization that is built around teams is strikingly different from an organization built in a traditional hierarchical fashion.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Team Activity and Principles of Team Management specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Some of the differences lie in commitment to goals, representation / awareness of strategic plans consistent presence of job performance indicators, employees dividing tasks and taking ownership of work and setting / meeting of new levels of performance are common to organizations built around teams (Dew 3). However it is also important to know when it is important to form teams as teams are known to work well where the tasks involved are complex and can be fragmented. The task of selecting when to form teams is a management role and the communication and leadership of the team must be directed from the administration (Dew 5). In this report the discussion presented will provide information on a team activity and reasons based on principles of team management in support of the activity as well as areas that could have been improved. The Team Activity The activity involved was the organization of a cultural night show by a group of students from my home country. Once the date was set the group sat down and had a meeting to select a leader. In the selection of a leader the group felt it was important to select an individual with strong leadership qualities. Among the qualities desired included; an ability to withhold personal opinions to allow other members have a say, good listening ability, ability to direct a discussion without favoritism, draw out opinions of all participants and ability to build consensus rather forcing decisions on members (Kriel, Singh, de Beer, Louw, Muton, Roussouw, Berning and du Toit 42). Following this initial discussion a vote was conducted and a leader was selected. Once the team leader was in place the discussion continued and selected the various officials that would be required to complete the task successfully. After forming a complete team of leaders the committee formed set about preparing a timetable and order of tasks to be completed. In addition to this it was also mentioned that random meetings could be called among selected individuals to brainstorm and complete the various tasks. The event was eventually completed successfully but not without some unexpected problems. Among the problems that were identified was the case that some of the members were given more tasks than they could handle in the allocated time.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? One of the st rengths of teamwork is the ability to utilize on the support of other members and this is one area where the team failed to fully comprehend. Another problem that was experienced in the team was poor conflict management. Despite the fact that the leader selected was good for the job the team consisted of several members all with different ideas and opinions. The result was that during brain storming exercises there was too much time wasted on trying to push various opinions home. It appeared that the team lacked a unified goal and this led to wastage of time. It is reported that poor communication can prevent a team from achieving its goal and threaten its survival (Kriel et al. 38). This point was most evident in the initial planning meetings held by the group. On the other hand one of the best outcomes of the event was the increased rapport that arose between members as the days progressed. Owing to the ability of the leader to keep the members focused as well as remind team membe rs of the goal of the committee it was much easier to overcome hurdles caused by different opinions. It was through the persistence of the group leader that members were constantly reminded of individual accountability and group responsibility (Kriel et al. 41). The cultural night ended up a successful event and the group managed to generate a reasonable amount of revenue from various sources. Bibliography Dew, John Robert. Managing in a Team Environment. Finance and Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Finance and Management - Essay Example With the use of the budgets, businesses will produce different management reports to the various stakeholders. The reports will be important in the evaluation of the business performance and act as a motivation to the employees. Product cost can be defined a s the total costs that is incurred in the manufacturing of goods or the provision of servicers. Various cost elements are involved in the process of producing a product. These include material cost, labor costs, overhead costs, and other expenses (Polimeni, 2000). The sum of these costs constitutes product costs. Material costs are labor costs are direct cost that are associated with the goods and are easy to determine when determining the cost of products (Epstein & Lee, 2001). Material costs can be determined from the purchase receipts that are made. Labor expenses are also determined from the salaries and other allowances that are paid to the workers and other experts that are involved in the production of goods and services. The last component of product costs that includes the overhead expenditure poses a challenge to cost accountants on how to incorporate them in the product costs (Horngren, 2009). There are different cost accounting methods that can be used to allocate these costs to the products to determine the total costs of the products. Product costs are necessary for decision-making and for external purposes. Product costs can be determined using the following methods. First, marginal costing system can be used in calculating the product cost. In this method, only the variable costs are used in arriving at the product prices (Polimeni, 2000). The organization will therefore use these costs to make decisions. Fixed costs and sunk costs are not included in the calculation because they are past costs which cannot influence the future managerial costs. Product costs determined in this manner will only be important in making internal deci9isions and not for external uses. The second cost methodology that can be used is the total costing or absorption costing method. In this method, the prices of products are determined by adding all the costs incurred in production including the fixed costs and other overhead costs (Epstein & Lee, 2001). All the costs are considered relevant because the management incurred the cost in the process of making the product. The method of should be used in determining the selling price that is charged on the products because it incorporates all the costs involved in the process (Lucey, 2002). The prices can therefore be determined by adding a desired margin on the cost of the goods. Moreover, the product costs can also be determined by the use of activity based costing. Activity based costing assists in the allocation of overhead costs that are then summed up to the variable costs to arrive at the total product costs. In this method, the overhead costs are allocated to the various cost centers and using the cost drivers. The method helps in charging costs to the various activities. This method has been used widely to control the costs of activities and make managers do away with non-essential activities that do not add value to the product manufacturing. Through the elimination of the dummy and redundant activities, the management will be in a position to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the process. The last costing methodology that can be employed is the throughout costing. This method is criticized by the accountants and is

Water is the predominant constituent of all of the bodies tissues Essay

Water is the predominant constituent of all of the bodies tissues. Discuss and compare the roles of water in cellular tissues and the connective tissues - Essay Example However, when an isotonic solution is infused, only 1/4th of the volume infused remains in the intravascular space after some time due to the influence of osmotic and hydrostatic forces. The intravascular compartment contains molecules with large molecular weight which are incapable of crossing the semi permeable plasma membrane due to small size of the pores (www.merckvetmanual.com). These large molecules or colloids exert a force on the membrane due to the difference in osmotic gradient known as the colloidal oncotic pressure (COP). The difference in the COP and the hydrostatic pressure is responsible for the control of the fluid content in the intravascular space and the interstitial compartments. When intravascular hydrostatic pressure rises above the COP, fluid movement occurs in the direction of interstitial space resulting in rehydration or oedema depending on the pre-existing hydration status. Any increase in membrane pore size or high interstitial COP can also contribute to this phenomenon. The evolution of animal life has produced diverse life forms of various Phyla which have habitats as diverse as the depths of oceans to deserts and mountains. This has lead to the development of exclusive water regulatory mechanisms in different species. The mammalian water regulatory mechanisms are more or less uniform in structure, functioning and adaptive mechanisms. Terrestrial life involves the risks of desiccation as well as salt deficiency, which have important roles to play in water regulation of the body (Denton et al, 1996). The hypothalamus in the mid brain and kidneys are the important organs in mammalian species which play vital role in water regulation. In higher vertebrates, the hypothalamus is responsible for triggering and controlling mechanisms in response to external as well as internal disturbances to maintain the body homeostasis internally.

Graduation Speech: A New Adventure :: Graduation Speech, Commencement Address

No amount of education can completely prepare us for the world that lies ahead of us. Because it presents many unknowns, it is exciting yet at the same time frightening. I know that there are still so many things that can only be learned through experience; a challenge with which we will soon all be faced. I would like to read a letter written by a woman by the name of Avril Johannes which was published in the book "Chicken Soup For the Soul." She writes this letter to the world upon her son's and his classmates' graduation and it relates some of these same ideas. "Dear World: Our children finish school today. It's all going to be quite strange to them for a while, and I wish you would treat them kindly. They are starting out on a new adventure. It is an adventure that may include war and tragedy and sorrow. To make their way they will require a great deal of faith, love, tolerance and understanding. So world, I wish you would look after them. Take them by the hand and teach them the things they will need to know, but please, world, do it gently if you can. They will have to learn that not all people are just, that not all people are fair, and that not all people are true. But also teach them that for every villain there is a hero, that for every crooked politician there is a great and dedicated leader, and that for every enemy there is a good friend. It will take time, world, but teach them that a nickel earned is of more value than a dollar found. Teach them to lose gracefully so that they will enjoy winning that much more. Steer them away from envy, if you can, and teach them the secret of quiet laughter. Teach them to be at peace with their God. Teach them to be strong inside so they can stand the hurt of failure and keep the desire to try again until they succeed. Teach them to be gentle with gentle people, and to be tough with tough people. Teach them to follow their judgment and not the crowd. Teach them to listen to all people, but to filter all they hear through a screen of truth. Teach them to laugh when they are sad, but also teach them that there is no shame in shedding tears.

Movie Review Spring Breakers - 2070 Words

Movie: â€Å"Spring Breakers† I chose the movie â€Å"Spring Breakers†, to illustrate how sexism, rape culture, and sexual assault play an enormous role in society. The movie is about 4 college best friends, Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Faith (Selena Gomez), Brit (Ashley Benson) and Cotty (Rachel Korine) , who are in need of money so they can go to Florida for their spring-break trip. The girls end up robbing a diner and they head down to Florida. However, the police soon find the group of girls and arrest them. The four college girls are then bailed out of jail by drug dealer and aspiring rap artist, Alien (James Franco). Afterwards, Faith cannot handle the pressure of being a â€Å"bad girl† and decides to go home. The other three girls decide to join Alien in a life of crime. The movie â€Å"Spring Breakers† is not just a horrible movie, but it boosts rape culture. This movie turns young women into sex objects. In the beginning of the movie, we get a slow -motion shot of breasts as the college students’ dance and drink on the beach. Despite the fact that men are also involved, the camera only focuses on the females. The message is clear, the females are the ones â€Å"letting loose.† Even a scene in the lecture hall shows two of the female protagonists imitate â€Å"blow jobs† in the middle of their boring class. In the book â€Å"Language and Sexism† by Sara Mills, explains, â€Å"Language does indeed reveal to us the values of groups and institutions within our culture in the past who were instrumental inShow MoreRelatedMovie Review : Spring Breakers921 Words   |  4 Pagesnew normal if you buy into what the 2013 movie â€Å"Spring Breakers† promotes. While I can acknowledge the attempts of the director trying to make this movie a satirical commentary of college spring break, due to poor artistic decisions and script writing this film instead showcases partying until the point of hospitalizati on, violence, and the sexualization of young women.
